Meet The Blogger: Oh My G Photography
Welcome to the first of 5 blog posts in which I’ve collaborated with my dear friend, Gracie Ayres from Oh My G Photography to bring you our opinions on everything from travel & photography to social media and everything in-between. Today I thought we would kick things off with you getting to know here a little more, where she’s from and her story so far… so without further ado, here’s the interview I did with Oh My G Photography.
// So, tell us a bit about yourself, who you are, what you do and your story so far? \\
Where to even begin?! My name is Gracie as you would probably already know, most people don’t actually know my full name, they just call me G and that’s all it’s ever really been. I am so so close to 22 years old and honestly I don’t feel it. My friends are all older than me so I always feel young I guess.
I have had a few jobs since I first started working at the age of 12; My motto through my life has always been “to be happy no matter what you’re doing.” That is and always will be my biggest priority in life. If I find myself becoming unhappy in the workplace, I tend to leave. It’s as simple as that and I think everyone should be that way. I mean obviously if you’re being a crappy worker, do better. But if you’ve given it your all and now it isn’t where you want to be, then everyone has that right to a happier lifestyle.
I am currently working as a kitchen hand, a cleaner, running my own business and being a full time support system to my daughter and an overly obsessive and clingy K-9 (lol). Times are definitely always full on but I wouldn’t change a thing – I’m extremely happy and that is the main priority for me personally in life.
I could go on about my past and all the struggles I’ve had to face, but I feel like it’s 1. Depressing and 2. It’s the past. Obviously it’s shaped me into who I am today but I think it’s best to move on and focus on the now.
// How did you get into blogging? \\
Blogging wasn’t actually something I had ever considered; It wasn’t even something I was overly familiar with. I knew people blogged, but that was as far as it went. Zero of my friends or family blogged and I’m not even sure they know much about it still to this day.
For me the biggest thing is I don’t think majority of people actually know it is indeed possible to pursue a career in full-time blogging. Whether that includes being a travel blogger which is in my eyes the most common, or whether you’re a blogger that just does it for fun, whatever it is and whatever your income is from your niche, most people don’t believe it’s possible. Which in fact, it most certainly is possible. Anything is possible.
I first got into blogging when I was surrounded by full-time bloggers for the first time in my life, and I really digged it. I love how versatile it is, I love the power it has and I love that most people don’t think it’s possible to earn an income from blogging.
Being surrounded by full-time bloggers in person was a huge turning point for me. It was something I could see myself doing and that’s what I did. I went out and I chased the excitement.
// What’s your greatest achievement so far & what do you hope to achieve in the future? \\
My greatest achievement… Honestly I can’t pick just one so I’m going to be that annoying person and point the big ones out in no particular order;
- Being the one of only 2 people from Australia to be chosen to go over to Indonesia to learn to run my own business and basically up my game another 28 notches.
- Being right alongside my kid every step of the way and having the privilege to teach her things, show her the ropes and be successful in making her happy.
- Getting away from negative people and removing myself, by myself, from those nasty situations we sometimes have zero control over.
- I got one of my photos printed in the local paper and that was a huge motivation booster!
- Last but probably not least, learning to be me again and gaining a whole new, better version of myself. So much so that the old people that were once in my life would need to get to know me all over again.
// What does an average day look like for you? \\
Ahh, here we go… I mentioned above that I am very busy so now time to prove it I guess!
I start my day usually around 5:30am-6:00am. I walk my dog, I come home around 6:20am, I have breakfast, I leave home for the 2nd time around 6:35am, I pick up my best friend and we go to our fitness class (usually boxing because we’re both tiny savages).
We’re usually finished by the 7:45am mark, then we walk all 3 dogs (she has 2). I then go take my kid to school and make sure she has a great day. I get ready for work after that, I go to work, I come home and go straight to work on my business, Oh My G Photography. That ranges from going out and doing paid photoshoots for clients or being back home editing and getting their portfolio completed for them. In my free time I blog and explore new places. “If not now, then when?”
Remember: If you’re happy, work won’t be something you dread doing.
I pick up my kid from school and the remaining of my day is usually spent exploring places with my dog, my friends and/or my family. We finish off the day with either more work and another walk or some kind of exercise; We aim for 12kms each day. I spend 98% of my time with my dog, she comes everywhere I go, if I’m there, then my dog is too.
// What does the future hold for you? \\
In my eyes, being successful requires 210% absolute hustle (at the beginning at least), so I go from work to my work, non-stop and I wouldn’t change a thing. I feel like this is a question that no one in their right minds could answer because well, you don’t know what will happen and you have no control over that; It is what it is.
In the world of dreams and goals and visions and all that juicy stuff, I definitely have loads of those… I would like to have travelled more and definitely pursued more blogging on my travels; Linked up with bloggers around the world again and this time do it slightly different with my new knowledge and new tips/tricks.
I would like to have consecutive weeks of people booked in for photography/videography. I would like to continue being happy and being surrounded only by those who are supportive; Myself and negative Nelly’s just don’t mix well together. Sorry for all you untruthful, unhappy people but we probably will never cross paths, sorry not sorry.
I would like to finish writing my book and publish it and I would like to continue changing, growing and being surrounded by those who empower others to be better and do greater.
I am so excited for the future and what is to come.
And there we have it. A little look into the life of Oh My G Photography… and what a life it is. 5:30am starts? Hmm, don’t know how I feel about that.
